CADET CORPS IN GHANA IS 70 YEARS

The National Cadet Corps in Ghana celebrates seventy (70) years since its establishment with a colorful parade at the Black Star square in Accra. The parade, which brought together twenty thousand (20,000) student cadet contingents from all sixteen (16) regions with about three thousand (3000) spectators, was under the command of Cadet Senior Under Officer (SUO) ADRIEL SAMUEL PAPA NII TETTEY, a second-year General Science student of the Presbyterian Boys Secondary School Legon who has commanded the National Cadet Youth Parade concurrently at the Black Star Square in 2023 and 2024.

The parade had Tylor Papa Kow Arnold, a third-year student from Apam Senior High School, as the second-in-command and Cdt Cuo-Ansah Angela Adwoa, a third-year student at Accra Girls Senior High School, as the pared adjutant.

The parade, which was under the theme “Empowering Ghana’s Youth for Peace and Stability Towards Development,” was reviewed by the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who was the guest of honor, and accompanied by Nicholas Nii Tettey-Amarteifio, the National Cadet Coordinator, General, the Deputy Minister for Education, Hon. Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, and the Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Dr Eric Nkansah.

After a display by pupils from the Dansoman cultural troop, Dr. Eric Nkansah, the Director General of the Ghana Education Service, welcomed everyone and reminded the government of a 2% allocation for student cadets who want to join the various security services.

The Deputy Minister for Education, Hon. Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, explained how the ministry has been promoting discipline in the educational sector using the cadet corps and that there is a need for more support to be given to the national cadet corps.

The national cadet coordinator applied to corporate organizations and individuals to come to their aid to support them. Because Government cannot do it all alone. He stated that “the student cadet had to support themselves to be part of the event; the government can’t do it all alone.”

His Excellency Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in his speech, congratulated the cadet corps and re-emphasize that it is obvious that cadet corps is the biggest reliable youth origination in Ghana and requested that national cadet corps submit a cabinet memo to look at the 10% quota for cadet corps when it comes to enlistment and recruitment into the various security service.
