The National Peace Council in collaboration with the National Cadet Corps on the 12th of October, 2020 held the first Community Peace Durbar at the Calvary Baptist Church in Ho.
The durbar attracted personalities from the regional peace council, the regional peace representative Rev. Fanuel Hotsonyame
Virtual messages were heard from the Chief Imam, the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost and the Christian Council.
During the questions and suggestions time in the program, there were questions on why the peace council is not heard of in any form unless during electioneering times, what the police is also doing to ensure the maximum protection of citizens and electorates during the elections and the appropriate quarters to report any issues of instability in their communities when detected. Rev. Fanuel Hotsonyame made it clear to the satisfaction that due to challenges with finances and other logistics, they are barely heard of, regardless of that, they do so much in settling issues of chieftaincy, land and tribal misunderstandings and also assured all of maximum protection from the police and further report to either the police or the nearest peace council office should they detect any form of irregularities in the community.
The Regional Representative of the National Peace Council in the Volta region, Mr. Fanuel Hotsonyame admonished the gathering to eschew any form of differences that might create any form of violence, chaos and instability before during and after the parliamentary and presidential elections. Each and every one should be an agent of peace and spread the message of peace they have heard in the meeting.
